Biography

Yves Dana was born in Alexandria, Egypt, in 1959. He now lives and works in Lausanne.

- Graduated in Sociology at the University of Lausanne in 1981
- Diploma at the Ecoles des Beaux-Arts of Geneva in 1983

In 1979, the artist sets up his first studio. Since 1985 he has dedicated himself exclusively to sculpture.

First exhibition in 1982: twenty sculptures are shown, mechanical and acoustic; first works in iron.

Several personal exhibitions introduce Yves Dana’s work to Switzerland and abroad. Monumental sculptures help the sculptor develop a growing mastery of space.

In 1996 a six months’ stay in Egypt, his birthplace. Back to simple hieratic shapes and the start of the series of the Stele.

Two years later, Yves Dana realizes his first work in stone. At the same time exhibitions at the Galerie Krugier-Ditesheim in Geneva and IIeana Bouboulis in Paris. In 2002 he stops working in iron and dedicates himself entirely to stone.

Various personal and collective exhibitions, most notably at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao. He participates also in different international exhibitions, such as ART Basel, ART Miami, FIAC Paris, Arco Madrid and KIAF Seoul.

Publications, in 2007 and 2008, of two new monographs: a retrospective of the sculptor’s work, (collections Découvrons l’Art, text by Bernard Vasseur) and one book devoted principally to recent works in stone - accompanied by a thoughtful catalogue with illustrations of 340 sculptures (Editions Cercle d’Art, text by Charles Juliet).
